On 18-20 February 2026, Tetyana Shtanko, Director of the Center of International Education and Cooperation of Lviv University of Trade and Economics and Yuriy Myronov, Professor of the Department of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Business and Director of the Innovation Center, took an active part in international online events – Monthly Community Webinar and Weekly IDEA Hubs on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning).

These events brought together representatives of universities from around the world who are implementing innovative approaches to the internationalisation of education through the use of digital technologies and collaborative online learning.

COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) is a modern educational technology that involves the integration of an international component into the learning process through the organisation of joint online courses, projects and academic interaction between students and teachers from different countries. This approach is actively supported by leading international educational institutions, including the SUNY COIL Centre, which is one of the world leaders in the implementation of COIL technologies in higher education.

During the Monthly Community Webinar, key trends in the development of international online cooperation, practical aspects of creating joint courses, and effective tools for organising intercultural interaction among students were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the integration of COIL into educational programmes in tourism, hotel and restaurant management, and international economic relations, which is extremely relevant for training specialists in a globalised environment.

As part of Weekly IDEA Hubs on COIL, participants had the opportunity to discuss promising areas for the development of partnerships, exchange experiences in implementing joint international educational projects, and establish new professional contacts with representatives of universities in Europe, North America & Asia. Of particular interest were examples of successful COIL projects in the field of tourism, which contribute to the development of students' intercultural competencies, digital skills and practical experience of international cooperation.

The participation of University's representatives in these events is of strategic importance for the further internationalisation of the educational process at LUTE. First of all, it contributes to the integration of the university into the global academic community and the expansion of partnerships with higher education institutions in other countries. The implementation of the COIL approach will expand opportunities for students to participate in international educational projects without the need for physical mobility, which is particularly relevant in the context of today's challenges.

Over two days, participants from Ukraine, Latvia, and Poland discussed the strategic vision and relevance of digital changes in the higher education system, especially in wartime. The partners presented the vision, mission, and main objectives of the project, which include the creation of Centers for Innovative Learning and Research, strengthening the capacity of universities, developing modern digital pedagogy, and promoting inclusiveness.

During the meeting, the expected results, the structure of the work packages, and the role of each university in the implementation of the project were discussed in detail. Considerable attention was paid to issues of management, communication, financial reporting, and quality assurance. Representatives of LUTE joined the discussion of their tasks within the work package related to the creation and equipping of Centers for Innovative Learning and Research, which is one of the key elements of the overall project strategy.

In the direction of developing international cooperation, Lviv University of Trade and Economics continues to actively implement Erasmus+ academic mobility programs, including in online format. On May 20-22, 2025, another initiative took place - distance learning from Professor Dr Olga Bielan of Varna University of Economics (Bulgaria).

During the training, the professor gave a lecture on the topic "Strategic design of the resort and recreational services market in the context of global competition" and shared modern approaches to the formation of competitive tourism products, focused on the importance of innovations in the field of recreation and gave examples of successful strategic models from different countries.

A feature of the event was the opportunity for interactive participation of LUTE students: during online learning they had the opportunity to ask questions, discuss problematic aspects of the topic and receive practical advice from an international expert. This format promotes the development of critical thinking, a better understanding of global market trends and at the same time broadens the educational horizon of students.

This distance academic mobility has become another confirmation that borders in the field of education are only a convention. Cooperation between LEU and Varna University of Economics opens up new prospects for students, teachers, scientists, administrators, stimulates their professional activity and lays the foundation for future scientific and career achievements.
