A series of films dedicated to the unique collections of the Pontifical University of John Paul II Library in Kraków.

What stories can old manuscripts, incunabula, and other unique books stored in library archives tell? A new project by the Pontifical University of John Paul II seeks to answer this question, aiming to promote history, culture, and science by exploring the University Library’s exceptional special collections.

As part of the project, a series of ten short film episodes has been created, presenting fascinating artifacts related to the history of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. Viewers will learn the stories hidden within the pages of manuscripts and early printed books, and discover how these valuable literary artifacts help contemporary researchers better understand the past.

Issues related to the region’s multicultural heritage, including the history of Catholics, Armenians, Jews, and Eastern Rite Christians, occupy a special place in the series. The films also highlight the significance of ancient books for the development of science, education, and the preservation of the shared history of the nations of Central and Eastern Europe.

This is a unique opportunity to view history and culture through the lens of the extraordinary treasures preserved in library collections and to discover how much they have to say to today’s audience.
