On 18-20 February 2026, Tetyana Shtanko, Director of the Center of International Education and Cooperation of Lviv University of Trade and Economics and Yuriy Myronov, Professor of the Department of Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Business and Director of the Innovation Center, took an active part in international online events – Monthly Community Webinar and Weekly IDEA Hubs on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning).
These events brought together representatives of universities from around the world who are implementing innovative approaches to the internationalisation of education through the use of digital technologies and collaborative online learning.
COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) is a modern educational technology that involves the integration of an international component into the learning process through the organisation of joint online courses, projects and academic interaction between students and teachers from different countries. This approach is actively supported by leading international educational institutions, including the SUNY COIL Centre, which is one of the world leaders in the implementation of COIL technologies in higher education.
During the Monthly Community Webinar, key trends in the development of international online cooperation, practical aspects of creating joint courses, and effective tools for organising intercultural interaction among students were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the integration of COIL into educational programmes in tourism, hotel and restaurant management, and international economic relations, which is extremely relevant for training specialists in a globalised environment.
As part of Weekly IDEA Hubs on COIL, participants had the opportunity to discuss promising areas for the development of partnerships, exchange experiences in implementing joint international educational projects, and establish new professional contacts with representatives of universities in Europe, North America & Asia. Of particular interest were examples of successful COIL projects in the field of tourism, which contribute to the development of students' intercultural competencies, digital skills and practical experience of international cooperation.
The participation of University's representatives in these events is of strategic importance for the further internationalisation of the educational process at LUTE. First of all, it contributes to the integration of the university into the global academic community and the expansion of partnerships with higher education institutions in other countries. The implementation of the COIL approach will expand opportunities for students to participate in international educational projects without the need for physical mobility, which is particularly relevant in the context of today's challenges.
